Mayur Chandrika Bhasma is a classical ayurvedic medicine, which has antiemetic and antispasmodic properties. The most common indication of Mayur Chandrika Bhasma is nausea and vomiting. It is also beneficial in hiccup, cough and asthma.
Mayur Chandrika Bhasma is prepared from peacock feathers. Peacock feathers contain melanin pigment, which gives them brown color. Bright colors in peacock feature are due to its inherent structure, which have several tiny holes. These holes are arranged into a hexagonal pattern. The reflection of the light through this structure gives the perception of different colors including red, blue, green etc.
Peacock feathers are taken and burnt with Cow’s Ghee (Clarified Butter). The ash obtained after burning the peacock feathers is known as Mayur Chandrika Bhasma or Mayur Piccha bhasma. Generally, colorful central part is taken for making bhasma.
